our session got off to a rough start, but we got there.

sometimes projects are like that, right? 😂

i’m so grateful to alec dilanchian who showed up and shared his journey of building small apps like oneyear.garden, find your faith, and now turntable, a little clipboard notch for your Mac )

we did a time machine segment — i pulled up a tweet he posted last year. it was a screenshot of him transferring money from his business account, and the caption was: paid part of my rent with revenue from an app that took 72 hours to build. then the next line: in all seriousness, it took over 5 weeks to get there.

the 72 hours is the part that travels. the 5 weeks is the honest thing. i asked him what those 5 weeks actually looked like.

he brought up the meme of the person with a shovel, digging for gold. they're one foot away from it. they stop. "i felt like i just kept digging. to be fair, i don't think i've reached the gold yet — but there have been little pieces of it coming up that kept me going."

so i asked what kept it all together. all the launches, all the iterations, all the apps that didn't take off right away — he said: "resilience. you just keep going. you believe in it so much that you just convince yourself: yes, this will work somehow. and the more you keep showing up every day to the thing, it's a matter of time until you break down every wall you need to get to."

alec also said he'd hook up a turntable lifetime code for anyone who wants one. just reply to this email and i'll send it your way.
